Elia Maseruka age 6
Daniel says:
“Elia comes from a remote Village in Uganda. His story is that his father chased his mother away and he was left at home with dad and his elder brother Yosia. His father used to lock them inside the house with a piece of bread. He would come back late in the night drunk. They missed school, slept on logs and went hungry before a good Samaritan with the help of the local council rescued them and brought them to KSEM orphanage.
Elia says he is enjoying life at the orphanage, he sleeps well, he is eating 3 times a day, he plays with his friends and he goes to school. His clothes have changed, he prays everyday and goes to church and he feels healthy.”
Additional information:
Elia has 2 brothers in the home, Yosia and Richard

“My name is Dennis, I am 11 years old.
My father died on the 25th December 2005, when I was 8 years old. After his death I went back to the village for his burial where my mum left me. In the village I was staying with my grandmother who was not able to pay for my school fees and therefore I was not studying. I used to over work to earn food with my grandmother, despite the fact that my mother could send school fees which my grandmother used to spend. Together with my mother, I was hated by some of my relatives who believed that she had killed my father. Later I was brought to the city to stay with my mother who was renting. In the city my mother could also not afford rent at the same time food.
We used to eat once a day until I came to KSEM orphanage. Today I can study, sleep well and have regular meals. I don’t have to work on Sunday so I go to church.”

Yanus age 11 says:
“I lost both my parents when I was 7 years due to an accident in 2004. After the burial I was taken to an uncle in the city who used to mistreat me. I ran off to the streets but I was later helped by a sympathizer who took me to school with his children until I was 10 years when he also died.
After his death his wife told me there were no longer school fees for me and I started working to earn a living while the others went to school. I used to fetch water for people who used to give me food. Later I was approached by a man who knew Coach Daniel and he took me to KSE where my life changed.
Today I went back to school; I have my own bed and enjoy life with my friends at the orphanage. I have regular meals and I don’t have to fetch water to get food”

Kagimu age 10 says:
We are three brothers. We used to live with both our parents until our father was arrested for political reasons. After his arrest our mother started hiding and went back to the village.
We lived with our neighbours but later dropped out of school because no one could pay our school fees. We then started selling metal scrap to earn a living.
Later someone took us to KSEM orphanage and we were taken back to school. We were given new clothes and beds. There’s enough food for us and we play very much.
We watch television which we did not even have.
Kagimu's other brothers are Abdul Sekitto and Abdul Ssebunya
