What are the running costs?

We are a very small charity with no overheads and we run it to help Daniel’s dream come true. There are no deductions so 100% of your donation goes towards the running costs of the home and the care of the children. There are 30 children currently at the orphanage, when you sponsor a chid your donations go not only to providing help with the costs of being in the home, but just as importantly their primary & secondary education. It pays for school uniform, exercise books, a plate and a mug plus other necessities to see the child through the school terms. They all want to work hard and get the best education they possibly can and then go to University. Education is the key to lifting the children out of poverty and giving them a chance to have a better life, but education is not free in Uganda and without your help this would be impossible. By sponsoring a child you develop a unique link between the child and yourself. Child sponsorship enables individual involvement with the lives of those children that are lucky enough to be given the opportunity for a place at the orphanage and to go to school. We are a very small charity and you can see exactly where your contributions go and how they directly help the children. The result is not only a chance for a better future for the child that is being sponsored and their community, but also a deeply rewarding experience for the sponsor too.

How much does it cost?

Although there is no fixed amount and any donation is welcome our aim is to encourage regular giving at a minimum cost of £10 a month. That’s just 30p a day to sponsor a child and offer them a better future. Sponsors can give more and this would mean that we can reach more children. Paying by Direct Debit is the most cost effective and efficient method of payment, saving you time and possible postage costs. You can arrange to pay this monthly, quarterly or annually. Alternatively, you can pay your regular donations to us by setting up a Standing Order yourself, a bank or Charity Aid Foundation account cheque.

Please make your gift go further by signing the Gift Aid section of the form. You will increase the value of your donation by almost a third at no extra cost. A gift of £10 would be worth £12.80 with Gift Aid. Under the Gift Aid scheme, if you are a UK taxpayer, we can reclaim the income tax you have already paid on your sponsorship donations at the basic rate.

You can download this sponsorship form (PDF) to set up a regular donation or you can go to our page on the Just giving website (opens in a new window) to make a donation.

How often will I hear from my sponsored child?

You will receive a letter from each child at the end of each term to update on their progress. As well as this we will send you updates on the work that we are carrying out in the child’s community and an annual project report.

Can I contact my sponsored child?

We really encourage you to write to your sponsored child. Many sponsors write regularly, while others send a letter once a year. However often you write we promise that letters, postcards and photos will be cherished and children find it easier to write back if they are already receiving letters. It is a wonderful way for the children to learn more about the world.

The best way to send correspondence to the children is either care of Daniel’s Dream at 11 Kneller Road, New Malden Surrey KT3 5NE or C/O Daniel Ntale, Kampala School of Excellence, PO Box 11560, Kampala, Uganda.

How long do I sponsor a child for?

You may sponsor a child for as long as you wish whilst they remain in the project. We do not set a minimum period, secondary education lasts for up to four years until the ages of sixteen or eighteen. Many of the children go onto University which also needs to be funded as this is not free in Uganda.

Please note that Daniel’s Dream is a charity run by Denise Gwatkin and Caroline Cardew-Smith but it operates under the umbrella of African Revival. if you have any queries about the charity’s status please contact them
